Regional Cultural Curators (Freelance): WE ARE HERE

We Are Parable are looking for 4 part-time regional cultural curators to support marketing, outreach and audience development campaigns across four regions (listed below) for WE ARE HERE - a new initiative dedicated to increasing access to Black Cinema for audiences outside of London.

About WE ARE HERE

WE ARE HERE is the first phase of a longer-term initiative to transform how Black films and stories reach audiences beyond London This pilot programme will deliver screenings and cultural events across four regional cities, testing more inclusive, community-driven ways to connect with audiences who have historically been underserved by traditional distribution models.

By embedding Black Cinema into regular regional programming, this project aims to build the foundation for an ongoing, nationwide platform for Black stories on screen.

Role

Regional cultural curators will work closely with the project Marketing & Outreach Manager, Head of Special Projects and partner cinema in their selected city to support the overall campaign for WE ARE HERE.

This role is not just for those already working in the film or exhibition space. We are looking for individuals who are culturally tapped into their communities - those who know how to reach, speak with and mobilise local audiences, particularly Black and marginalised groups.

Cultural Curators will help shape the project by contributing creative ideas, building partnerships and collaborating on event delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Marketing & Outreach Manager and We Are Parable senior management team to ensure programming aligns with the mission of We Are Here.

  • Support the ideation and development of regional audience strategies with the wider marketing team.

  • Research, establish and maintain partnerships with key local stakeholders, organisations and community groups who are engaged with target audiences of We Are Here.

  • Assist with grassroots marketing and outreach activity in the city.

  • Work with local cinema venue and We Are Parable team to support the planning and delivery of four events over the 6-month period.

  • Help curate and deliver supplementary activities such as panel discussions, Q&As or workshops to support deeper engagement with films in programme, including helping to source local talent (e.g. speakers, performers, hosts)

  • Work closely with the Marketing & Outreach Manager to frame campaign narratives that build connection with local audiences.

  • Ad hoc social media marketing and outreach.


Skills/Experience:

  • Strong local knowledge and relationships within your chosen city.

  • Experience of community outreach and/or cultural programming with in arts (not necessarily in a film exhibition context)

  • Confident and familiar with marketing and communications aimed at underrepresented audiences.

  • A passion for Black Cinema and an understanding of its cultural significance.

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.

  • Experience of organising or supporting events (preferable).

Fee: £3,000 (flat fee)

Contract Period: September 2025 – March 2026 (6 months)

Location: Remote, with in-person delivery at 4 events in your stated city
