A list of films that celebrate an icon - Spike is 60 - We Are Parable

We Are Parable present a comprehensive list of films celebrating the 60th birthday of Spike Lee

“All directors are storytellers, so the motivation was to tell the story I wanted to tell. That’s what I love.”

Spike Lee

Spike Lee is one of the most celebrated icons in cinematic history, having directed over 40 films over a 35-year career.

Born in New York in 1957, 2017 represents a milestone for Lee – his 60th birthday.

To acknowledge this, experiential events company We Are Parable have created “Spike is 60”, a retrospective film festival, taking place in London and Manchester, from March to December 2017, the year of Spike’s 60th Birthday.

13 films. 11 events. 2 cities. 1 Spike Lee.

The season (supported by Film London and Film Hub North West Central) begins a day before Lee’s birthday, on 19th March, with “Mo Better Blues” screened at the Rio Cinema in Dalston. Audience members will be treated to a live Jazz band within the cinema, playing music throughout the film. For scenes with music, the band will ‘build’ their own sound onto the existing acoustics to allow for an experience like no other.

Spike Lee – paying homage to an icon

“Spike is 60” will attempt to not only celebrate Lee’s films, but also create a space where fans connect with a new generation.

Anthony and Teanne Andrews, “Spike is 60” festival curators and co-founders of We Are Parable, feel that a retrospective list of films is long overdue.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that Spike Lee is one of the most important film maker in my lifetime,” Anthony says. “His style is peerless  and the dialogue in his films fizzes around, losing none of its verve and wit.”

Spike is iconic. Spike is legendary. Spike Lee is 60.
