We’ve had a facelift for 2018.

After a crazy 2017, we thought it was time to step it up a few gears.

And just like that, the year that was 2017 is no more. What started off as a year of thinking “Can we actually pull this year off, or is it going to completely backfire?”, we ended it looking and feeling like Lionel Ritchie seeing Kanye West perform. Like, “damn, this is actually happening.”

Yes, the Spike is 60 film festival was an incredible project to work on, almost two and a half years in the process. The people we’ve met, the places we’ve seen, and the very fact that we had an amazing opportunity to show some of our favourite films on the big screen again was something amazing to behold.

Every event was a joy to work on, whether we had 20 or 200 people in a room. From playing live music over Mo Better Blues, to hosting a Brixton block party after screening Do The Right thing and Crooklyn, all of our work attempted to show different facets of Spike’s career and life.

Of course, the real moment was when the man himself reached out to us and asked to us to collaborate on a super last minute event. Thanks to our amazing network, our super supportive partners (too many to mention, but quick shoutouts to Picturehouse, Film London, The New Black Film Collective and The British blacklist) and to all of you, we managed to sell out the Sigourney Weaver screen in Picturehouse Central (Capacity: 400) on the 10th July.

Introducing Spike Lee on stage. We did that. We did THAT. What some of you might not know is that the picture of us and Spike is everywhere; on my phone’s wall paper, my laptop’s screen saver – hell, it’s even the main image on this very site’s homepage. You might think that it’s to show off, but no. Think of it as our way of pinching ourselves.

What’s next?

As a result of this wonderful, unique night, a number of opportunities have very fortunately come our way, some of which we’ll be able to share with you in the coming months. But despite, upping the levels in 2017, one thing still gnawed at us: our website.

So that’s why we wanted to start 2018 on a new wave, with a new website. A website that is clean, unfussy and provides you with the latest news, views and upcoming events that we’re working on. We hope you like what we’ve done with the place.

But that’s not all.

In 2018, we want to provide you guys with much more.

Sure, it was a busy past 12 months, but I have fully neglected this here blog and want to start posting much more regularly.

We are hammering out the final details of creating a regular podcast that we hope to launch in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

Finally, we’ll be creating a newsletter where all of the latest news and views will be all in one place – your inbox.

So, in a nutshell, in 2018, that’s why we’ve decided to make some updates to the site. Because, to paraphrase Marshall Goldsmith’s book, what got us here, ain’t gonna get us there. Wherever “there” happens to be.

Wishing you a wonderful start to 2018.
